In 1989, when I was working 60 to 80 hours per week in midtown Manhattan, I dreamed of a beautiful, spacious, quiet place, untouched by the rat race, rushing crowds, mass transit, polluted air, trendy restaurants and all the pretensions of big city life.  Mostly, I just wanted the peace and quiet of undisturbed nature and clean air to breathe.

I found my dream and I bought it!  It was -- and still is -- located in a truly breathtaking, pristine and untrendy place: Schoharie County.  From a weekend getaway, to a sanctuary, to a home.

In 2010 circumstances required that I relocate, so now I am wondering if my dream is the same as YOUR dream.  If so, don't dream it anymore -- buy it!!   Over the course of 20 years I pulled apart my old house, tearing down old wallpaper, revealing wide plank wood floors buried beneath old rugs, digging up stones and fertilizing soil; planting perennial gardens, hosta gardens, flowering shrubs, birch trees, and more.  But the original 19th century charm and and fruit-bearing apple trees of 1989 are still there.  And so is the peace and quiet.

Vlaie Pond is a short walk down the road

Walking distance down the road is the "famous" Vlaie Pond.  A natural wildlife sanctuary, I have often seen eagles, loons, herons and other remarkable delights.  Never crowded, you will see one to several cars parked, with ample space for solitary canoeing, kayaking or rowing.  Local residents enjoy ice fishing when it freezes over!

Would you like over $450 per month to subsidize your mortgage payments?  Well, by the way, it's a 2-family on a corner lot with massive road frontage.  So every month you get a nice check from a very quiet tenant who has her own driveway on a different road!  You'll never even see or hear each other, but you will get the check on time, every month to help pay your mortgage!
